Airports in Berlin can potentially boost passenger volumes during summer vacations.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) Experiences Significant Summer Travel Boom in 2022
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) witnessed a remarkable increase in passenger numbers during the summer vacation of 2022, with approximately 3.73 million travelers using the airport, marking an increase of around 130,000 compared to the same period in 2024.
The month of August 2022 saw the highest number of passengers, with around 2.44 million people passing through BER, a rise of about 52,000 compared to the same month in the previous year. This surge in passenger numbers was accompanied by an increase in the number of flight movements, with around 16,800 aircraft taking off and landing at the airport during August 2022.
The cargo volume also saw a significant boost, with approximately 5,000 tons handled in August 2022, exceeding the previous year's figure by 920 tons.
The busiest day at BER during the summer vacation of 2022 was September 5th, with a record-breaking 91,400 travelers.
The increase in passenger numbers can largely be attributed to Condor Airlines, which expanded its presence at the airport with extensive new routes to Frankfurt, Greek islands, and Dubai, boosting flight frequency and destinations from the airport. This expansion led to a significant increase in passenger numbers to 3.73 million at BER in summer 2025 compared to 2024.
