Intriguing factoid: International airfare has also decreased, with an average of $840 for round-trip tickets to Europe.

Did you know that Sunday, June 22, was the TSA's busiest day ever with nearly 3.1 million travelers screened?buckle up, folks, because Sunday, July 6, is forecasted to be the busiest day over the holiday period (July 1-7). Interestingly, Thursday, July 3, will be the busiest day to depart for the holiday, and Tuesday, July 8, will be the least busy – and most affordable – day to fly home, according to Expedia.

Did you know United Airlines projects Friday, June 27, and Thursday, July 3, to be its busiest days with around 580,000 passengers each day?

And as for the most sought-after destinations? Las Vegas, New York City, Miami, Orlando, Florida, and Los Angeles are setting the trend for domestic travel, while Cancun, Mexico, snags the top spot for international destinations. Seattle and Los Angeles also make the list, according to Hopper.

AAA predicts a whopping 61.6 million people will journey by car, which is a noteworthy 2.2% increase from last year. And guess what? Gas prices for the summer have remained low, thanks to lower crude oil prices, according to AAA.
