Anticipating Heavy Traffic: Hamburg Airport Prepares for Busy Operation

Over 42,000 travelers are expected at Hamburg Airport daily during the holiday season, with popular destinations being sunny locales as well as Polar Light tours in Northern Europe. Speaking about the upcoming festivities, a spokesperson for the airport stated, "Just before Christmas, we welcome many passengers who wish to spend the holidays with their families at home." The airport will experience a lull in traffic between Christmas and New Year's, followed by another increase in travelers.

Among the top destinations during winter months are year-round sunspot locations such as the Canary Islands, Egypt, and Turkey. Polar Light tours in Northern Europe, including Tromsø in Norway and Rovaniemi, Finland's Santa Claus Village, have gained popularity. Compared to the busiest day of 2023 (13th October with 56,442 passengers), the airport sees fewer travelers during the winter months from November to February, according to the airport's statistics.

For reference, the average daily passenger count in 2023 was 37,151.
