August 3rd museum event: uncovering crafts and immersing in history exploration
The Bergisches Museum for Mining, Crafts, and Industry is hosting a traditional museum festival on August 3, 2025, from 11 am to 5 pm. Located at Burggraben 195, 1429 Bergisch Gladbach, the event takes place on the grounds opposite the Technical Town Hall, surrounded by historic half-timbered buildings.
This year's festival promises a diverse program, with live demonstrations of historical crafts, activities for children, guided tours, exhibitions, and regional delicacies. Visitors can experience handmade techniques, discover history, and even participate in creative activities.
The 1907 locomotive and the impressive hammer mill will be operational during the festival, with their functions explained to visitors. An archaeological tour offers insights into the tools used for mining in the past, while craftspeople will provide insights into traditional techniques such as baking in a historic oven, blacksmithing, or spinning and weaving.
Crafting activities and face painting are available for children, and families can enjoy exciting lantern tours through the visitor's tunnel, providing a close look at the history of the Bensberg mining district. Children can also participate in creative activities such as building houses with clay and straw or making herb salt.
For the leibliche Wohl (physical well-being), refreshments include coffee and cake, cold drinks, freshly baked bread, and hearty and vegetarian options from the grill. The permanent exhibition provides insights into the daily life of people who lived in the region in the past.
Willi Carl, chairman of the museum's support association, states that the festival is a great opportunity to convey history in an engaging way. Sandra Brauer, museum director, mentions that the museum festival is one of the highlights in the house's event calendar and aims to make regional craft traditions tangible and bring people together.
Admission to the festival is 3 euros, reduced to 1.50 euros. Children under school age have free admission. The festival is organized by the museum's support association, which works with many volunteers to ensure its continuation for over 40 years.
