With around 40,000 visitors predicted to join in the fun, Sven Frese, the festival spokesperson, confirms that the event remains a staple on the island's calendar, boasting the same crowd size as the previous years. While there are forecasts of changeable weather, it's anticipated that the sports and music program will remain unaffected.
Accommodation on the island might be scarce, as both local residences and visitors plan their getaways for this eagerly awaited long weekend. If you're thinking of joining the festivities spontaneously, finding a vacant room could prove challenging. Norderney also expects a surge in day-trippers, with ferry companies, such as Reederei Norden-Frisia, preparing for an influx of arrivals. More than 20 departures from Norddeich to the island are planned for this Friday alone.
The Beach Cup-Norderney, one of the main events in the sports competitions, forms part of the 2nd German Beach Tour organized by the German Volleyball Association. This year, the tournament will yet again be prestigiously part of the same tour. Points for the German Championship ranking and a total prize money of 10,000 euros are up for grabs. A spacious center court with seating for 3,000 spectators has been set up on the North Strand for the tournament.
