Bengaluru's Namma Yatri Launches 'Namma Transit' to Boost Public Transport

Bengaluru-based Namma Yatri has introduced a new feature, Namma Transit, aiming to make public transport the city's primary commuting option. The company also released a comprehensive policy report, Made for BLR: Namma Mobility Blueprint 2030, outlining plans to reform urban transport by 2030.

The new feature, built on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), integrates real-time data from various transport modes, including BMTC buses, metro services, autorickshaws, and cabs. Namma Transit serves as a personal transit assistant, providing real-time updates and guiding users through their entire journey. The concept was developed by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and is expected to be available citywide by 2026.

Currently, average commute times in Bengaluru have risen by 16% over the past year, with residents spending roughly 63 minutes to travel just 19 kilometers. Namma Yatri's report sets ambitious goals to increase public transport's share to 70%, reduce commute times to 57 hours, and halve transport-related emissions by 2030. One major recommendation is the formalisation of regulations around ride batching and pooling to deliver environmental and economic benefits.

Namma Transit is initially rolled out to select users and expected to be citywide within a week. The feature aims to offer a more efficient and commuter-friendly alternative, making real-time navigation through Bengaluru's diverse transport network a seamless experience. Namma Yatri's vision, as outlined in the Made for BLR: Namma Mobility Blueprint 2030, seeks to transform Bengaluru's urban transport landscape by 2030, contributing to a more efficient and sustainable city.
