A cyberattack targeted the service provider for the check-in and boarding systems at several airports worldwide, causing significant disruptions over the weekend. Collins Aerospace, a US-based IT company, provides these systems for airlines, and the attack affected their operations at Brussels Airport, London's Heathrow, and potentially Berlin Brandenburg airport.

On Saturday morning, Brussels Airport announced that only manual check-in and boarding were possible due to the attack. As a result, 10 flights departing from Brussels had to be canceled, and 17 were delayed by more than an hour. The disruption is limited to electronic customer check-in and baggage drop, but it has had a large impact on the flight schedule at the Belgian airport.

London's Heathrow Airport also experienced delays due to the technical issue at Collins Aerospace. The company acknowledged a "cyber-related disruption" to their MUSE software in select airports, and they are actively working to resolve the issue and restore full functionality to their customers.

Airports are advising passengers to check their flight status before coming to the airport to avoid any inconvenience. The technical issue may cause longer waiting times at check-in, particularly at Berlin Brandenburg airport, where the impact is still being assessed.

Collins Aerospace provides check-in and boarding systems for numerous airlines, and this incident underscores the importance of cybersecurity in the aviation industry. The company is committed to resolving the issue as quickly as possible to minimise the disruption to air travel. Passengers are encouraged to remain patient and to follow the guidance provided by their airlines and the airports.
