The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has initiated the "Weltwärts" project, a development-oriented volunteer service program that aims to promote cultural exchange and development cooperation. Monja Meyer, an 18-year-old resident of Lüdinghausen, is one of the many volunteers embarking on an exciting journey. Her 11-month adventure begins on August 25th, as she sets off for Malawi, a small country in East Africa. The distance from her home in Lüdinghausen to Malawi is approximately 11,500 kilometers, a journey that fills her with excitement rather than sadness.
Monja completed her Abitur at Gymnasium St. Antonius and is receiving assistance for her journey from Kolping JGD (Youth Community Service). Her confirmation to travel has caused a surge of adrenaline in her home, as she prepares to be separated from her family and friends for a period of 12 months.
The "Weltwärts" project is designed to foster global understanding and engagement among young people while supporting local communities through developmental projects. The BMZ provides financial support and oversight to the program, ensuring that it aligns with Germany's international development goals and strategies.
