Timișoara, a city nestled in western Romania, has been crowned the top family vacation destination in Europe for the summer of 2025, according to a new ranking by DiscoverCars.com. The ranking evaluated over 100 European cities based on various factors, including accommodation and attraction costs, weather conditions, and airport connectivity, to determine the most affordable and family-friendly locations.
Timișoara's sunny summer weather, averaging 27°C across June, July, and August, played a significant role in its success. The city also boasts low car rental costs, with rates at just RON 44.86 per day, the second-lowest in the ranking. These economical factors make travel around the city accessible for families.
The city's appeal extends to its abundance of parks and green spaces. Notable spots like Rose Park and the Ion Creangă Children's Park offer families ample opportunities for outdoor recreation. While Timișoara did not rank highest in airport connectivity, its access supports easy travel. The city's proximity to attractions like the Turda Gorge Nature Reserve, located 15 km from Cluj-Napoca, adds to its appeal.
Kumanovo in North Macedonia took second place in the ranking, while Madrid and Budapest followed in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Warsaw ranked third, benefiting from a high number of daily flights - 299. Other cities in the top ten include Patras, Athens, Zagreb, Bălți in Moldova, and Bitola in North Macedonia.
Bucharest, Romania, ranked 13th in the list. Orășelul Copiilor offers rollercoaster-style attractions, while Therme Bucharest combines relaxing thermal pools with fun water slides. However, the methodology used by DiscoverCars.com did not focus on the availability of free parking near attractions.
