Greece Crowned World's Most Welcoming Country in 2025 Travelbook Awards
Greece has been crowned the most welcoming country in the world at the Travelbook Awards 2025, with nearly 150,000 public votes securing the win. The Mediterranean nation received 28 percent of the votes, outshining New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Greek hospitality, deeply rooted in ancient times, played a significant role in this victory. In ancient Greece, hospitality was considered divine law, with hosts obligated to respect, feed, and shelter strangers. This tradition continues today, with many accommodations in Greece still run as family businesses, fostering a friendly relationship between hosts and guests.
Greek hospitality is strongly influenced by the central importance of family and a cultural understanding of community. This warm and inviting atmosphere captivates visitors, along with Greece's excellent cuisine, impressive nature, and rich cultural heritage. In 2024, around 36 million tourists visited Greece, including 5.7 million Germans, marking a 13 percent increase from the previous year.
Greece's triumph at the Travelbook Awards 2025 reflects the country's commitment to preserving its ancient hospitality traditions while continuing to attract millions of visitors each year. Despite the Greek tourism board not releasing official statistics about German tourists in 2025, the significant increase in German visitors from 2023 to 2024 underscores Greece's enduring appeal.
