Ireland serves as the backdrop for the filming of the second season of the show titled Wednesday.

In the heart of the Emerald Isle, Tim Burton's latest Netflix series, Wednesday, has discovered a perfect setting for its dark and mysterious aesthetic. The series, currently in its second season, has filmed several key scenes in counties Offaly, Wicklow, and Dublin.

One of the most striking locations is Charleville Castle in Tullamore, County Offaly. This neo-gothic castle, with its dramatic and eerie backdrops, has been prominently featured as the "King Oak" location. Charleville Castle has previously graced the screens in productions like Becoming Jane and The Tudors.

Another notable location is Powerscourt Demesne in Enniskerry, County Wicklow. Known for its stunning waterfall and gardens, this historic estate adds an atmospheric and lush scenery to the series. Powerscourt Demesne has a history of appearances in shows such as Vikings.

The evocative Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin also serves as a setting that deepens the show's gothic tone. This cemetery, resting place of famous Irish figures like former Taoiseach Seán Lemass and singer Sinéad O’Connor, has been used in the series as well as other productions.

Filming around Wicklow also took place at Ardmore Studios, with the overall choice of these Irish locations bringing a timeless, mysterious, and magical aesthetic that perfectly fits Tim Burton’s vision for the darker, more complex second season of Wednesday.

The landscapes of Ireland, including those in the Wicklow National Park, serve as full-fledged actors in Wednesday, echoing the dark humor, strangeness, and solitude of Wednesday. The park, a spectacular place featuring black lakes, heaths, and misty valleys, provides the perfect backdrop for the series.

Jenna Ortega, the lead actress, praised the natural beauty and welcoming nature of the Irish landscape and people encountered during filming, underscoring the integral role the setting played in creating the series’ distinctive mood.

Guided tours are being organized around Powerscourt and the forests of County Wicklow, as some fans have identified filming locations. However, minimal marketing is being used for these tours, allowing the enchanting landscapes to speak for themselves.

The Powerscourt Estate, an 18th-century domain, offers a dark elegance that sticks to the skin of Wednesday. Its exterior scenes evoke a sense of history and mystery. Despite not being used to represent Nevermore Academy, the Powerscourt Estate's manor exudes a beauty frozen in time, with its Italian gardens, stone terraces, and century-old trees.

Ireland has a long tradition of hosting gothic or fantasy productions, such as Harry Potter and Star Wars, and Wednesday simply reveals what its landscapes have always whispered: a call to mystery.

While filming Tim Burton's series Wednesday, in-flights to the Emerald Isle revealed stunning locations like Charleville Castle in County Offaly, which was used to create the spooky "King Oak" setting. This second season of the Netflix show has also featured Powerscourt Demesne in County Wicklow, known for its picturesque waterfall and gardens, as an atmospheric backdrop to the series' dark lifestyle. The series' gothic tone is further amplified with scenes shot at Deansgrange Cemetery in Dublin, offering a chilling contrast to the beauty and welcome nature of Ireland, making it a hidden gem for movies-and-tv entertainment.
