Katelyn Cummins, the victor of Rose of Tralee, expresses joy over her role in representing females in the trades sector.

In the heart of Ireland, the small town of Tralee, Co Kerry, was abuzz with excitement as 20-year-old Katelyn Cummins from Ballyouskill, a location on the Laois-Kilkenny border, was crowned the 2025 Rose of Tralee.

Katelyn, an electrical apprentice currently in her third phase with Alpha Drives Ltd, found the competition a great opportunity to embrace her feminine side in a predominantly male work environment. She expressed that the support and camaraderie from the other contestants have boosted her confidence and empowerment.

Alpha Drives Ltd, based in Ireland, designs and manufactures gearboxes and other electrics. Katelyn's hard work and dedication in her field did not go unnoticed, as she was awarded the prestigious title on Tuesday night at the Tralee Dome.

The new Rose of Tralee is a role model for many, particularly for young girls in the trade world. Katelyn, who wears a hearing aid, is inspired to inspire others and break stereotypes in traditionally male-dominated industries.

If she could send a message to her younger self, Katelyn would advise to be confident, believe in oneself, and know that one will be amazing in the future.

As part of her Rose of Tralee winnings, Katelyn received a €25,000 travel bursary. She has not yet declared her travel destination, stating she will go where the Rose of Tralee international festival takes her.

One of the highlights of the festival for Katelyn was her relationship with Wexford Rose Clíona O'Leary. The two got along well, and their friendship was a source of joy for Katelyn.

Another memorable moment for Katelyn was the Moonlight Parade on Saturday night. She was moved by the large crowd in Tralee, which added to the magical atmosphere of the event.

Interestingly, Katelyn was unaware that she is the first ever Laois winner of the Rose of Tralee competition. This historic achievement fills her with pride and motivates her to make the most of her new experiences and represent her county and country with honour.

The title was conferred to Katelyn by the reigning Rose Keely O'Grady from New Zealand. As the 2025 Rose of Tralee, Katelyn is ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and cultural exchange.

In the words of Katelyn, "I am excited to make new experiences and travel the world as part of my Rose of Tralee winnings. I can't wait to see what the future holds and to inspire other girls to pursue their dreams, no matter the field or industry."
