Kyoto Exploration and Tony Awards Fashion Insights from My Chanel Perspective: A Detail of What I Donned and Observed

Hey there! It's Stellene, fresh off my Kyoto Chanel jet lag (I swear, there's no other kind). My latest High Jewelry adventure was in Japan, and let me tell you, the Chanel itinerary - along with those incredible HJ pieces - made every second of that flight worth it. I bedded down at the Six Senses Kyoto, and trust me, the breakfast was something out of this world. A standout dish was the onsen egg accompanied by white rice and rice bread with matcha butter. We roamed through the enchanting Moss Garden, marveled at the modern brilliance of the 17th-century Katsura Imperial Villa, gobbled up every morsel of the Daigo Soba at Saryo Tesshin, and for once held back on tempura at Ten You. Masayo Funakoshi's farm-to-table haven, Farmoon, had us in awe. As much as we yearned for a table at Monk, even the polite bluntness of the sign outside couldn't tempt us.

Enough about that, let's focus on the jewelry at hand! The "Reach for the Stars" Chanel High Jewelry collection was simply breathtaking. The pieces were marked by Chanel's iconic symbols, such as the comet, the lion, and now, the wings. This collection wrote a new chapter for Chanel's high jewelry universe. The stones were nothing short of stunning - it's hard not to be sidetracked by that 20-carat Padparadscha sapphire. But even more impressive was the speed at which Chanel established its jewelry signatures, a feat demonstrated in their High Jewelry as well as the Coco Crush line[1].

This collection was shown in Kyoto, a city that values intention and thoughtfulness above all. And the elegant, exquisite, yet far from excessive nature of the pieces seemed to reflect that sensibility. In the coming weeks, I'll be digging deeper into this collection in T&C.

Flight Jewelry: The Good Luck Charms

En route to Japan, I found myself pondering the charm bracelets and talismans we don for every flight. I wear a Ten Thousand Things lapis and coral evil eye pendant, and it was fun to discover what other pieces fellow jewelry enthusiasts wear. Jennifer Meyer shared her good luck charm necklace with a large turquoise leaf while Danielle Gadi showed off her Marlo Laz Porte Bonheur pendant[2].

Torque Girls Summer

Expect to see torque necklaces taking center stage this summer. This ancient style has been fashionable in my appointments, with stellar examples like the Antonia Miletto emerald torque and Sidney Garber's gold one with a pearl pendant[3]. I was also delighted to wear a torque adorned with an Edwardian gold and ruby locket at the Tony Awards.

Quintessential Classics

I've got Elsa Peretti's gold starfish on the black cord on repeat this season. I recently spotted a diamond version at Tiffany's Landmark on Fifth Avenue. I'm also emphatically invested in the classic Lalaounis double lion open bracelet, now available in wood and gold[3].

Night in NYC

From Broadway shows to late-night picnics in Central Park, I am obsessed with making the most out of NYC's summer nights. A few events I have marked in my calendar are Art, Chess, and Ragtime, not to mention a return to Gatsby and Versailles. For a perfect Broadway night, make sure to check out Rick Miramontez's after-party at the Caryle.

Sticks & Stones

I rested and relaxed post-flight with a Palper Rouler treatment at Daphne at Aida Bicaj, and once back home, I opted for under-eye masks for puffiness. Summer evenings in the city are best spent at open-air picnics, so grab a sandwich from Sant Ambroeus, some Diptyque citronella and geranium body spray, and let the good times roll!

Till next time,
