NYT Names Centovalli Railway Top Autumn Journey in Europe
The Centovalli Railway, a scenic route between Locarno, Switzerland, and Domodossola, Italy, has been recognised by the 'New York Times' as one of the top five autumn train journeys in Europe. Known as the 'Treno del Foliage', this picturesque railway offers passengers a stunning display of autumn colours.
The Centovalli Railway, spanning 52 kilometres, winds through the Centovalli and Valle Vigezzo, crossing 83 tunnels and traversing 31 bridges. It connects the Swiss canton of Ticino with the Italian region of Piedmont. The journey, which takes approximately two hours, treats passengers to breathtaking views of the changing foliage, snow-capped peaks, and lush valleys.
The 'New York Times' praised the railway for its ability to showcase the best of autumn, with vibrant hues of red, orange, and gold painting the landscape. The newspaper also highlighted the unique experience of crossing international borders without leaving the train.
The Centovalli Railway, honoured for its spectacular autumn scenery, continues to attract travellers seeking a scenic and convenient way to appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons. The railway operates throughout the year, but autumn is undoubtedly the most colourful time to embark on this journey.
