Tourism Malaysia and Vietnam Airlines Strengthen Ties with Memorandum of Cooperation
Tourism Malaysia and Vietnam Airlines signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on August 2, 2025, in Hanoi, Vietnam. This collaboration aims to strengthen tourism ties and promote two-way travel between the two countries.
The MoC includes initiatives such as joint marketing campaigns, co-branded advertising, familiarisation trips, promotional events, cultural exchanges, and regular information sharing to attract more travelers between Malaysia and Vietnam. This partnership also supports broader tourism strategies like Malaysia MADANI Week, the Malaysia Tourism, Arts, Culture & Food Fest 2025, and the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Vietnam Airlines will be positioned as the preferred carrier for travel between Malaysia and Vietnam, while the collaboration seeks to highlight Malaysia as a leisure and business destination. This strategic and forward-looking partnership reflects a commitment to bringing people closer through travel and cultural exchange in the ASEAN region.
Vietnam Airlines currently offers extensive direct flights connecting major cities in both countries, including Ha Noi, HCM City, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc with Kuala Lumpur, Penang, and Johor Bahru. As of now, there are 164 direct weekly flights between Vietnam and Malaysia, operated by VietJet Air, AirAsia, Batik Air, and Malaysia Airlines.
Key activities under the MoC include organising familiarization trips for media, travel agents, and influencers, exchanging market insights, and co-hosting promotional events. Additionally, the partnership will develop customized travel products for diverse customer segments.
Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia, stated that this event marks more than just a formal agreement. He expressed his confidence that the MoC will inspire more Malaysian visitors to explore Vietnam. Similarly, Đạng Anh Tuấn, Airlines Executive Vice President, stated that the MoC will inspire more Vietnamese visitors to visit Malaysia.
This partnership is expected to contribute significantly to the growth and development of tourism in both Malaysia and Vietnam.
