Unconventional Train Ride: A Passenger Insists on Sleeping in a Hammock, Leading to a Police Escort

Taking naps on long train rides can be a great way to pass the time, but one 57-year-old passenger on a train from Hamburg to Munich took it too far. He decided to set up a hammock in the carriage and, much to the dismay of the train staff and other passengers, refused to budge when asked to remove it.

This unusual scenario unfolded around 11:30 PM on Saturday night. A train attendant noticed the man securing his hammock between the luggage racks and politely asked him to take it down. However, the camping enthusiast chose to ignore the request, disregarding the potential dangers and discomfort he might have caused fellow travelers.

Power struggle with the authorities

When the train attendant attempted to exercise her authority and remove the man from the train, he responded by insulting her. At this point, the Federal Police stepped in at Uelzen station. The man initially continued to defy the officers' orders, but after being handcuffed, he was finally escorted off the train, still protesting loudly.

Even at the police station, the 57-year-old continued to disregard instructions, refusing to cooperate. After he calmed down, he was released for the night with a pending procedure against him for resisting law enforcement and using insulting language.

As for setting up hammocks on trains, it's not a common occurrence, but train authorities deter such actions due to safety and comfort concerns for other passengers. Incidents like this are generally not documented frequently, as shown by the lack of specific instances in public records. However, train personnel and police are trained to enforce rules and regulations to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers during their journey.

  1. Despite the uncommon nature of hammocks on trains, as shown by a TikTok video from a frustrated passenger regarding the London Underground, the no-hammock policy exists due to safety and comfort concerns for other travelers.
  2. The lack of specific instances in general-news records of hammocks on trains, like the recent Hamburger Morgenpost article about a man being escorted off a train for setting up a hammock, does not diminish the importance of enforcing rules and ensuring a pleasant lifestyle for all passengers.
