Philippines Takes Centre Stage at 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair
The Philippines takes centre stage at the 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair, serving as the Guest of Honour. With the motto 'Imagination peoples the air', the event promises to weave Filipino literature, culture, and history into the global literary landscape. Over 230,000 visitors are expected to attend this prestigious event.
Architect Patrick Flores is designing the Philippine pavilion, which will represent the country's 7,641 islands through 'inhabited' book displays and artist projections. The pavilion's design by Stanley Ruiz will feature translucent roofs symbolising windowpane oysters, a traditional Filipino decoration.
The fair will showcase many contemporary Filipino authors' works translated into German for the first time. A highlight will be a new edition of 'Noli me tangere' by national hero Jose Rizal. The Frankfurt Book Fair, held from 15 to 19 October 2025, is the world's largest publishing trade event.
The 2025 Frankfurt Book Fair promises to be a significant event for Filipino literature and culture. With the Philippines as the Guest of Honour, visitors can expect a rich and diverse exploration of the country's literary landscape.
