A study by Sonneil, a leading research firm, has revealed that the province of Alicante is a national leader in wellbeing and quality of life in Spain. The province, located on the southeastern coast, is home to several of the happiest cities and towns in the country.

According to the Spain Happy Index 2025, Málaga ranks as the first happiest city in Spain with a score of 91.36 points. Not far behind, Almería takes the second spot with 90.88 points. Interestingly, Alicante city, the capital of the province, ranks as the third happiest provincial capital in Spain with 89.99 points.

Santa Pola, a town in Alicante, clinches the title of the happiest town in Spain with an impressive score of 90.62 points. Elche, another town in Alicante, ranks fourth with 89.40 points. Guardamar del Segura, another coastal town in Alicante, also makes the list with 87.55 points.

The Mediterranean climate, quality of services, closeness to the sea, and a calmer lifestyle are some of the factors that place the province of Alicante in a privileged position, according to Alfredo Millá, CEO of Sonneil. The province boasts an average temperature of around 20°C and enjoys 299 days of sunshine per year, with only 24 rainy days annually and low wind levels.

The Valencian Community, which includes the province of Alicante, is one of the five happiest regions in Spain. Puçol, a town in the Valencian Community, and Xilxes, a town in the province of Castellón, both score respectably on the Spain Happy Index 2025 with 85.30 and 85.90 points respectively.

However, the ten happiest cities in Spain outside the province of Alicante are not specifically listed in the available search results.

The study evaluates factors such as the number of sunny and rainy days, average annual temperature, wind conditions, quality of healthcare and education services, and proximity to the sea or airports.

Ibiza, a popular tourist destination, ranks as the 16th happiest location in Spain with 90.86 points on the Spain Happy Index 2025. The capital of the province of Castellón achieves a score of 67.39 points on the same index.

In conclusion, the province of Alicante stands out as a shining example of happiness and quality of life in Spain. Its Mediterranean climate, beautiful coastline, and high-quality services make it an attractive destination for both tourists and residents alike.
