Telemedicus Summer Conference Returns to Berlin
After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Telemedicus Summer Conference (Soko22) returned to Berlin in person on July 8 and 9. The conference, organized by Telemedicus e.V., brought together experts to discuss the latest developments in information society law and other digital topics.
The conference, held at the Microsoft Atrium, kicked off with the presentation of the 'Telemedicus Awards', a light-hearted take on the year's most notable digital blunders. The event then delved into serious matters, with around twenty lectures and discussion rounds.
Benjamin Brake, Head of Digital and Data Policy at the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, addressed Germany's digitalization backlog and political plans to tackle it. Meanwhile, Conrad S. Conrad, a Senior Data Protection Consultant at datenschutz nord GmbH, presented on data subject rights for eSports players, a topic often overlooked in data protection discussions.
The conference also explored the limits of current BGH case law in influencer marketing and new trends like 'pharmafluencers'. The future EU regulations, the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA), were extensively discussed, along with other legislative proposals in the digital field. Media regulations, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), space law, and data protection law were also on the agenda. The legality of SpaceX's satellite orbits and the issue of space debris were among the intriguing topics debated.
The Telemedicus Summer Conference 2022 provided a comprehensive overview of the latest developments and challenges in information society law and digital markets. With a mix of serious discussions and light-hearted awards, the conference offered a well-rounded perspective on the digital landscape, setting the stage for future dialogues in the field.
