Traffic Congestion Alert Over Weekend - Suggestions for Motorists to Avoid Delays - Traffic congestion alert: Strategies for motorists to avoid gridlocks.

ader Hales, head of the traffic and environment department at ADAC, anticipates significant traffic congestion in Baden-Württemberg leading up to and during Ascension Day on Thursday. The busiest period is expected to be Wednesday afternoon, when commuters and vacationers will be on the roads at the same time. Last year, this day ranked among the year's most congested days.

Holger Hales warns that construction sites across several highways - A5, A6, A7, A8, and A81, contribute to the risk of traffic jams, especially when construction-induced lane closures result in backups.

Here are the current highways with potentially congested construction sites:- A5: Darmstadt-Heidelberg, both directions between Hemsbach and Hirschberg- A5: approach to Karlsruhe between Rastatt-Nord and Karlsruhe Süd- A6: Mannheim-Heilbronn, both directions between Kreuz Walldorf and Wiesloch/Rauenberg- A7: Würzburg-Ulm, both directions between Feuchtwangen-West and Rastplatz Mühlbruck- A8: Stuttgart-Karlsruhe, both directions between Pforzheim-Süd and Pforzheim-Nord- A8/A81: Leonberg triangle- A81: Singen-Stuttgart, both directions between Oberndorf am Neckar and Empfingen

The ADAC advises travelers to strategize their travel times to avoid peak periods. Early or late travel on Thursday and Friday, or Saturday, when traffic is likely to be lighter, is recommended. Sunday will see more traffic than a typical Sunday, yet fewer jams than Wednesday.

Leaving the highway during a traffic jam and taking county roads seldom provides meaningful relief, says Hales. Detour routes are often congested as well. It is usually only beneficial to depart from the highway for jams exceeding 10 kilometers or full closure situations.

In addition, increased border controls when entering Germany may affect short vacationers, so they should plan accordingly. Last year's pre-Ascension Day traffic shows a total of 239 jams on Baden-Württemberg roads on Wednesday, with a combined length of 896 kilometers and 272 hours of wait time.

Travelers are encouraged to follow ADAC's recommendations to make their Ascension Day weekend travel in Baden-Württemberg smoother, taking construction-related slowdowns into account. For more specific detours or construction zone details, travelers can utilize the ADAC traffic app or other traffic monitoring services.

  1. The community policy on transportation, specifically addressing highways A5, A6, A7, A8, and A81, actively deals with construction-induced traffic jams, asseen in the highlighted construction sites.
  2. To minimize the impact of Ascension Day traffic, travelers should consider adopting lifestyle changes such as adjusting travel times or utilizing the ADAC traffic app, which provides real-time information about construction zones and traffic congestion.
  3. Despite leaving the highway for county roads during a traffic jam, it's often ineffective due to congestion on the detour routes, and departure from the highway is only beneficial in cases of jams exceeding 10 kilometers or full closure situations.
