Train journey for a day visit to Würzburg via rail transport

Experience a step back in time with the Nostalgia Train Association as they offer a unique day trip to the historic city of Würzburg on October 25th.

The journey commences early in the morning at Mönchengladbach Central Station, taking passengers on a nostalgic ride through the picturesque landscapes of Germany. The route passes through Neuss, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne before a locomotive change takes place at Hanau.

At Hanau, the steam locomotive "23 058", a DRG Class 23, takes over, leading the train towards Würzburg. This locomotive, built in 1955, has been operational since October 2020 after undergoing extensive maintenance work.

Upon arrival in Würzburg, visitors can explore the city's historic old town, renowned for its baroque architecture and cultural significance in Bavaria. Würzburg is home to several landmarks, including the fortress Marienberg and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Würzburg Residence.

The return journey begins with the historic electric locomotive "110 350" from the 1960s. The train journey continues in 1970s-era express train carriages, complete with openable windows, offering passengers a truly authentic experience.

The freight locomotive 52 7409, a DRB Class 52, takes over for the final leg of the journey. Built during wartime in 1943 for the German Reichsbahn, this locomotive was used for peaceful purposes post-1945.

Round-trip tickets for adults cost €119, while children aged 4-16 pay €79 for their round-trip tickets. Ticket orders and seat reservations can be made by calling 02041/34 84 66 8 or visiting www.nostalgiezugreisen.de.
