Unexplained Pile-ups of Skateboards on the Streets of Nizhny Novgorod: Mystery Unveiled

In the heart of Nizhny Novgorod, the city is grappling with a growing issue - the chaotic parking of electric scooters. E-scooter parking issues have become a common complaint among residents, with scooters often found scattered across pedestrian areas, causing obstacles on city sidewalks and taking up valuable space.

To tackle this problem, the city has taken several measures. The operators of e-scooter services are responsible for removing the scooters from unauthorized parking spots, with fines of 500 rubles imposed on users for improper parking. If the operators fail to remove the scooters within three hours, the SIM cards are towed to a special holding area.

Residents can contribute to the resolution of e-scooter parking issues by reporting improperly parked scooters using a publicly accessible Telegram bot. Upon receiving a report, the e-scooter operator will identify the violator and take appropriate action, ranging from issuing a fine to suspending the account.

The city has also introduced over 900 special e-scooter parking spots, capable of accommodating more than 16,000 e-scooters. These spots are marked for easy identification, with the official e-scooter parking spot located near the Chernoprudsky Garden.

However, the makeshift e-scooter dumps are still a common sight around various areas of the city, including Kostina Street, where e-scooters are causing congestion, taking up more than half of the sidewalk.

A video report by GTRK "Nizhny Novgorod" on August 12, 2025, showcased the ongoing efforts to address e-scooter parking issues in the city. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation mandates regional authorities, including Nizhny Novgorod, to designate paths and parking lots specifically for electric scooters and other personal mobility devices to improve traffic management and safety.

As the city continues to implement these measures, residents like Veronika, who finds the situation inconvenient and describes it as a "mess" in various parts of the city, hope for a more orderly and safe urban environment.
