The Bavarian city of Munich takes the trophy, leaving behind stiff competition from Milan and Paris. A whopping 86% of Munich's population reside within a kilometer of a car-free zone, and 85% are just as close to healthcare and educational facilities.
But why is Munich a dream for pedestrians? Its main attractions are within easy reach, like the Marienplatz, a bustling historic square with the clocktower that houses the Rathaus-Glockenspiel mechanical clock, a must-see with characters enacting scenes from the city's past twice a day.
Munich's English Garden park spans 375 hectares, featuring the Eisbachwave wave, a spot where surfers show off their moves on the Eisbachwalle River. Don't miss the Monopteros, a quaint Greek temple atop a hill, offering breathtaking views.
